Air Quality Index Guide
The Air Quality Index (AQI) translates PM₂.₅ concentrations into a standardised scale so different pollution levels can be easily compared and communicated.
Good
Air quality is satisfactory and poses little or no risk. Safe for outdoor activities.
Moderate
Unusually sensitive people should consider limiting prolonged outdoor exertion.
Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups
Children, elderly and those with respiratory conditions should limit outdoor exertion.
Unhealthy
Everyone may begin to experience health effects. Avoid prolonged outdoor exertion.
Very Unhealthy
Health alert: everyone may experience serious effects. Avoid all outdoor exertion.
Hazardous
Health emergency. Everyone should avoid all outdoor exertion immediately.
Based on US EPA AQI breakpoints for PM₂.₅. Values are calculated from 24-hour average concentrations.
